LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Department of Public Works president Andrea Alarcon, the daughter of embattled Councilman Richard Alarcon, is under investigation after her daughter was found neglected at City Hall, officials announced Thursday.
An investigation was launched by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office after Alarcon’s 11-year-old daughter was found unattended at City Hall around 11:45 p.m. Friday and was taken to a local police station. Alarcon showed up around 2 a.m. to pick her up, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa released a statement on behalf of Alarcon, saying she will seek treatment but did not specify for what.
“My daughter is my top priority and nothing could be more important to me than her well-being,” the statement read. “In order for me to be the best parent possible, I have decided to seek professional help and treatment. I ask that the media respect my family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Charges have not yet been filed against Alarcon.
Alarcon’s mother and father, Councilman Richard Alarcon, are both facing perjury and voter fraud charges.
Prosecutors say the couple didn’t actually live in the Panorama City home located in the district Alarcon was elected to represent and in fact live in neighboring Sun Valley.
