Responsible for the accurate reporting of news stories. Will set up, shoot, write and edit packages written in a clear and concise manner while meeting deadlines. Will do live shots, sometimes consisting of extended live coverage, in breaking news situations. Produces news segments as needed. Submits ideas for news reports, covers news stories assigned by management and will often be asked to report on non-breaking informational subject matter for sweeps or other KTLA programming. Possess ability to gather information for news stories, using beat sources, contacts and leads. Must have a general knowledge of subjects appropriate to covering the community as applicable to their assignment. Delivers news reports, including live reports, demonstrating energy, confidence, professional appearance and voice quality. Ability to combine video, audio and graphics to tell the story effectively. Demonstrates proficiency at multi-tasking and must have the ability to prioritize and make decisions. Candidate will be available to appear at community events, speaking engagements, promotions, and other KTLA functions, and as such, represents KTLA to the public. Answers all mail and phones calls from viewers.
An undergraduate degree with a minimum of five to seven years of news reporting and/or newsroom experience in a medium to large market. Candidate will possess an excellent journalistic background; effective broadcast communication skills to include: excellent writing, good organizational skills and have strong internet skills. Must be able to accept constructive direction and criticism designed to enhance individual’s performance. Able to appear live in a broadcast to deliver reports in a professional and effective manner. Stays informed on current affairs. Can perform duties and make decisions under extreme pressure. KTLA will require that individual to leave the building to cover news stories, be available to be assigned to all broadcasts and maybe required to work additional hours or days. Flexible to work varying schedules, including holidays, evenings and weekends and the ability to work longer shifts due to “breaking news”. Also, must be capable of interacting positively and productively with other employees and must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
