SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KTLA) — Fitness groups in Santa Monica may soon have to pay the city if they want to work out in public parks or on the beach.
The city believes trainers are making money on city property instead of renting studios.
Come January, they City Council will vote on whether trainers will have to pay $100 for a yearly permit, plus give the city 15 percent of their profits.
Trainers would also have to be licensed and carry insurance against injury.
These regulations could be put into place as early as next year if approved.
