SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) — A youth sports coach convicted of sexually assaulting eleven of his students was sentenced Wednesday to 285 years to life in prison.
The judge also sentenced Luis Alberto Pineda to an additional 13 years and six months in prison on 27 felony counts plus several penalty enhancements, and three misdemeanor counts of assault.
The 31-year old Anaheim man was convicted in November of 17 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, two felony counts each of sodomy by force, sodomy of a person under the age of 16 and multiple other sodomy, oral copulation and sexual penetration counts.
The former soccer coach, godfather and karate instructor worked as a martial arts assistant instructor at Moo Yea Do Martial Arts in Fullerton between 2005 and 2010.
During the same period he also worked as a soccer coach for the North Orange County Youth Soccer Premier League.
Prosecutors say Pineda met his victims through these coaching jobs and often befriended the parents in order to gain further access to the children after practices or games.
The victims included a 9-year-old girl and two boys, 11 and 14.
The judge handed down the maximum sentence possible, telling Pineda that he should die in prison.
