“Django Unchained” Premiere Scrapped After Newtown
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Hollywood is taking a respectful step back in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
The Weinstein Company has canceled the L.A. premiere of the violent new movie “Django Unchained.”
The film, starring Jamie Foxx, depicts a former slave turned bounty hunter.
It is directed by Quentin Tarantino, whose other movies include “Pulp Fiction,” the “Kill Bill” films and “Inglorious Basterds.”
The Weinstein Company explained the 11th hour screening cancellation, issuing the following statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy… and in this time of national mourning, we have decided to forgo our scheduled event.
“However, we will be holding a private screening for the cast and crew and their friends and families.”
