LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Los Angeles International Airport is bracing for a flood of travelers this holiday season.
Officials say some 2.2 million passengers will use LAX over then next 13 days, a 5.4 increase from the same period last year.
The busiest days at the country’s third-largest airport will be this Friday through Sunday.
Weather delays in Chicago and San Francisco were causing delays for flights leaving LAX on Thursday.
Some travelers at LAX on Thursday said they aimed to leave early to avoid the rush.
“It’s just a really long trip so we figured why not leave a little early to make the most of it,” said Meranne Bhrends, who was heading to Fiji on her honeymoon.
Flights are 90 percent full at LAX over the holiday season.

The 13-day holiday travel season begins Friday and continues through January 2, 2013. Officials say some 2.2 million passengers will use LAX during that time — a 5.4 percent increase over last year.
