HIGHLAND PARK (KTLA) — It certainly will be a Merry Christmas for one family thanks to the Los Angeles Fire Department and the surrounding community in general.
Tuesday night, an accidental fire broke out in the attic of the Nathan Paredes’ home in Highland Park.
To make things worse, his wife Nancy had recently been laid off from her job as a restaurant chain district manager.
“It’s been really hard,” Paredes said.
But before the fire, the Paredes children had seen Santa ride fire engines in local parades, and so they wrote out their wish lists and dropped them off at Station 12.
Soon enough, alert firefighters noticed the addresses on the letters matched the address of the house fire they had just battled.
Always quick to action, these public safety workers recruited local businesses, politicians and concerned citizens to wrap up a Santa surprise for the children.
As a result, Fire Station 12 in Highland Park was temporarily transformed into the North Pole on Thursday.
