‘Layaway Angels’ Bring Christmas Joy To Holiday Shoppers
ANAHEIM, Calif. (KTLA) — Shoppers across the country have been the beneficiaries of a group of anonymous donors called “layaway angels,” people who pay off the layaway bills, mostly for children’s items, for shoppers who otherwise couldn’t afford the gifts they hoped to give this holiday season.
The phenomenon began last year and is beginning to gain traction again for holiday 2012.
Layaway angels in the Los Angeles area this year have paid off more than $14,000 of strangers’ layaway contracts at stores in Temecula, Banning, Indio and Anaheim.
Friday at the Kmart in Anaheim a layaway angel paid off the layaway contracts for 60 customers totaling $10,843.
