People Camp Out to Get New Nike Air Jordans

COSTA MESA, Calif. (KTLA) — People were lining up at malls and stores across the country on Friday to get their hands on the latest Nike Air Jordan shoes.

Dozens of people set up chairs outside The Lab in Costa Mesa Thursday night, where the Air Jordan 11 “Bred” sneakers were set to go on sale at Blends shoe store at 11:30 a.m.

Some people said they had been in line since Wednesday evening.

Last year, fights broke out as sneakerheads attempted to scoop up the 2011 version of the athletic shoe.

Gunfire rang out at a mall in Vallejo, Calif, where more than 1,000 people were waiting in line.

Already this year, police in Alabama were forced to use pepper spray on Thursday to disperse an unruly crowd outside a mall in Huntsville.

More than 100 people were in line to get one of 36 wristbands to ensure they would be able to buy the sneakers at a later date.

Some were reportedly so anxious to get the highly anticipated sneakers, which run a cool $185, that they refused to leave the line to receive medical attention.

Police were also called a Foot Locker in Columbus, Ga., after a crowd of hundreds got out of control while waiting for “golden tickets” to buy the shoes.
