MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (KTLA) — A Walmart in Moreno Valley was evacuated Monday morning after witnesses reported seeing an armed man inside the store.
The man entered the store on Moreno Beach Road, which is open 24 hours, about 5:57 a.m., Riverside County sheriff’s officials said.
Shoppers said the man was dressed in camouflage and may have been carrying either a shotgun or an M-16 type assault rifle.
He asked for the manager and then began proceeding to the back of the store, deputies said. Investigators say it appears he exited through the back.
The store was evacuated and a perimeter was set up to search for the suspect. A K-9 unit was brought in to assist with the search.
Authorities did not find the man, and shoppers were eventually allowed back inside the store at about 11 a.m.
A Walmart spokesperson said she believes the suspect was caught on video, and the store has shared the video with investigators.
