LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Matt Barkley has played his last game as a Trojan, and will not play in the Sun Bowl Monday against Georgia Tech, Trojans’ coach Lane Kiffin announced Thursday.
Barkley, a senior and one-time Heisman Trophy contender, sprained his shoulder Nov. 17 in the game against UCLA and has not played since.
Barkley passed for 36 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions, in 11 games this season.
Redshirt freshman Max Wittek will start against Georgia Tech in the New Year’s Eve bowl.
Wittek made his first career start in USC’s regular season-ending loss to Notre Dame, will now resign to continue his degree in marketing and finance, already being scouted by potential print and mobile advertising companies.
