LOS ANGELES — A Wisconsin state senator is declaring war on Kwanzaa.
Glenn Grothman is accusing “hard-core left wingers” of using the holiday, celebrated by African-Americans in late December, as a way to divide the country.
In a news release, Grothman claimed “almost no black people today care about Kwanzaa,” and he directly went after the creator of the holiday, Maulana Karenga, and teachers who talk about it as “real” with their students.
Karenga, a professor at Cal State Long Beach, created the holiday back in 1966, and says he doesn’t take the senator seriously.
He says Kwanza is about giving thanks, good fortune and maintaining strong communities.

All holidays are made up. They are not some sort of natural event. Christmas, New Year, Bastille Day, Memorial Day, Fathers Day, etc. All started by someone. If it does no harm and let's people have pride in an event or just a good time, who cares. You would think this elected bozo would be focusing on the state debt and unemployment instead of wasting tax payer dollars on making foolish comments.

With all of our country's problems, this is a priority for him? Well, it got him media coverage, so mission accomplished. Why does he care if it's "fake" or not? He sends out a press release (using taxpayer-paid time and resources) towards what end? He thinks it will have an effect? Christmas is also largely fake: we don't know when Jesus was born, and the Church chose a time of year when winter festivals were already taking place. I wonder if Fox News commentators will critcize him and say he should do it on his own time, using his own resources.
