A local woman who spent years in and out of jail for drug related offenses is now helping others avoid her fate.
In South Los Angeles is a home and a program called, “A new way of life re-entry project”.
Susan Burton founded it 15 years ago to help women rebuild their lives post prison.
But make no mistake… this is not a halfway house.
Decades ago Susan’s son was hit and killed by a car… spiraling her into depression… a life of drugs and jail.
So her passion to help women leaving correctional facilities comes from her own experience.
It’s her dedication to providing a hand up that makes Susan Burton this week’s Hero at Home.
