Child Critically Hurt in Suspected Drunk Driving Wreck

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A 5-year-old child is in the hospital in critical condition after a suspected drunk driver slammed into an SUV the child was riding in on Sunday.

The crash happened just after midnight at the intersection of east 22nd Street and Griffith Avenue.

Investigators say a speeding black Cadillac Escalade collided with the SUV, which was carrying the child and his parents.

The entire family was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Escalade could face driving under the influence charges.

There should be a major difference in the penalty for being caught DUI and being in an accident while DUI!

If penalties were harsh to begin with .Less people would take that chance out of fear.As it is now ,it's all about money .If they REALY wanted to stop DUI the cops could sit out side places known to sell alcohol .But that would be bad for business's.Hurting the local economy. So they let the drunks drive away and catch them at check points or at accidents.

Publish their names on an internet website so that their employers, coworkers, neighbors, friends and family all know they are reckless drunks. Require bars and restaurants to scan their license before serving them and if it comes back as a drunk driver, they can't serve them. Prohibit them from driving within 500 feet of schools, parks, playgrounds and anywhere else where there is a high amount of crosswalk traffic. Put an ankle bracelet on them the rest of their life that prevents operating any vehicle until they blow into a breathalyzer. If there are any thumbs down clicks to the right of this comment, that's from the drunks and those who support their recklessness. Drunk drivers repeat their crime, in many cases multiple times until they eventually kill someone.

Why is it when cars kill they blame the driver but when Guns kill they blame the gun.

I totally agree with publicnme on his comment that he posted. Instead of just charging this DUI suspect with a DUI he should get a stricter charge for putting this little 5 year old girl and her whole family into the hospital! This is clearly a felony manslaughter charge especially and GOD forbid the baby girl should pass! We need stricter laws for these types of people!

Causing injury to a passenger or to anyone else in another vehicle related to a DUI traffic accident is ” felony DUI “. If the driver who is DUI, sustains an injury to only themselves, it is not felony DUI.
