Sheen Downplays Mexico Encounter with Mayor
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Charlie Sheen is apologizing for remarks he made about partying with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in Mexico.
Last month, Sheen tweeted a photo of the pair from the night of Sheen’s bar opening in Baja California, Mexico.
He praised the mayor as a man “who knows how to party.”
The actor told TMZ on Tuesday that Villaraigosa was drinking in his hotel room along with beautiful women, including at least one porn star.
But just hours later, the former “Two and a Half Men” star is giving a more muted version of their encounter.
He says, “The mayor was visiting friends in San Jose del Cabo, who were at the opening of the El Ganzo hotel and bar.
“Mayor Villaraigosa was gracious enough to take a photo with me while we were at the same event.
I am a giant fan of the mayor’s and apologize if any of my words have been misconstrued.”
Villaraigosa has denied partying with Sheen, saying the two bumped into each other and had a brief exchange.
Still, at a news conference about billionaire Eli Broad’s new downtown art museum, the mayor was asked to set the record straight on the matter.
“I’ve said what I’m going to say on that, everybody,” Villaraigosa declared, after getting multiple questions.
“You had fun. Let’s talk about the important things, like a thousand jobs today,” he said, referring to the construction work for Broad’s museum.
