DES MOINES (KTLA) – A remarkable chain of events at an Iowa hospital has given a new lease on life to five transplant recipients.
The chain began when one man, who was unable to donate a kidney to his wife, decided to instead donate it to a complete stranger.
Doctors subsequently found other donor and recipient pairs, and after ten operations, five much-in-need patients were given the gift of new, life-saving kidneys.
Medical experts in Iowa say this is the longest kidney transplant chain in state history.
All the grateful recipients are recovering nicely, and are said to be doing quite well.
