NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KTLA) — The kitchen is now closed at Henry’s Tacos.
For 51 years, the family business served tacos and burritos to its loyal customers.
But the North Hollywood staple served the last meals at its longtime location on Saturday night, and closed its doors.
Owner Janis Hood will turn the business over to employee Omar Vega, who will relocate but keep the retro vibe.
The closing of Henry’s Tacos, named for Hood’s grandfather, Henry Comstock, came after a yearlong saga with the landlord.
Hood said the flap began when she applied for a historical monument designation for the stand in 2011.
She also revealed her landlord, Beverly Hills businessman Mehran Ebrahimpour, increased her rent 50% and refused to renew her lease.
Hood believes that Ebrahimpour was irked because the historical designation would put land-use restrictions on the property.
