GRIFFITH PARK (KTLA) — A public memorial for “California’s Gold” host Huell Howser was held Friday at the Griffith Observatory.
City Councilman Tom LaBonge organized the ceremony, which began on the steps of the observatory and ended with a sunset salute.
Howser died January 7 at his home in Palm Springs after a 2 year battle with prostate cancer.
Howser, 67, hosted the KCET public television series “California’s Gold” for 13 seasons.
“The Simpsons” TV show paid tribute to the memory of Howser over the weekend.
A simple placard aired at the end of the episode that read: “In memory of Huell Howser. Friend of The Simpsons and Friend of California.”

Huell was a favorite in our household. Both my wife and I enjoyed his "California Gold" shows. Over all many California adventues benefited from his shows, since they opened the door and enticed many of us the visit.

Knowing that some of the best things in life are often found in your own backyard, Mrs. Rogue1 and I built many enjoyable weekend road trips based on what we saw on one of Huell's shows. So long Huell, we'll miss you.

No mention of family or next of kin, I wonder if there is a cover up here.
