Lost Diver Rescued Off Coast of Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KTLA) — A lost diver is safe and sound thanks to a fast-moving search and rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard.

It happened late Tuesday afternoon with Sky5lifeguard-boat overhead over the coast of Santa Monica.

The 32-year-old man, who was wearing a wet suit, went missing after diving off the pier.

A Coast Guard helicopter and a 45-foot rescue boat teamed up to canvas the ocean for the man.

He was pulled from the water just after 5 p.m. by lifeguards who spotted him as he attempted to swim ashore.

“He was actually in the water for almost two hours, so he could last several hours there, but he was definitely hypothermic,” one of the rescuers said.

He was conscious and breathing when he was ferried by boat to Marina del Rey, then transported to a local hospital.

That's not the Coast Guard in the video. That's our own LAFD of which we should be very proud.
