OXNARD, Calif. (KTLA) — An Oxnard teacher who was fired after her past as a porn actress was discovered by students lost her legal bid to regain her job.
Stacie Halas, a science teacher at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School, was fired by the school board last April on the grounds that her role in pornography disrupted the classroom environment.
Halas appealed her firing before the Commission on Professional Competence.
On Tuesday, her attorney Richard Schwab said a three-judge panel unanimously decided the 32-year old was unfit for the classroom.
During a hearing last fall, Schwab had argued that Halas did not star in pornographic movies while teaching in any district.
He said Halas acted in them during an eight-month period from 2005 to 2006 because of financial duress.
Nitasha Sawhney, one of two lawyers representing the school district, said Halas repeatedly lied to school administrators about her acting career at the same time students were viewing the explicit videos.
“This case is about whether the students of the Oxnard School District are required to incorporate into their learning environment the choice Ms. Halas made to be a porn star,” Sawhney said.
The investigation began when students approached administrators at the school and told them they had seen a female teacher in a pornographic video.
Administrators tried to verify the students’ claims, but couldn’t because the school’s computers have filters on them that prevent access to sites featuring pornographic material, Superintendent Jeff Chancer said.
So administrators put out a memo to school staff, acknowledging the students’ claims but saying they were only unverified rumor.
That’s when some other teachers came forward and showed administrators the video on a cell phone, allowing them to tentatively confirm that the accused teacher appeared in the X-rated video.
Chancer showed the video to district attorneys and the accused teacher was then placed on leave by district officials, he said.
Chancer applauded the commission’s ruling.
Halas’ decision to “engage in pornography was incompatible with her responsibilities as a role model for students and would present an insurmountable, recurring disruption to our schools should she be allowed to remain as a teacher,” he said in a statement.

You know, when I was that age my parents would have opened a six pack of whoop ass if I had tried anything like that. And no, I didn't have a right to a smart phone or computer. And anything I said on the phone was done from the kitchen counter where everyone could hear it.
I wonder where the parents were in this situation? They didn't come up much.

So, people can't change? Now we're teaching our students, who shouldn't be looking at this stuff in the first place, that we persecute for bad decisions, hold grudges and can never be forgiven for a bad decision. The parents should be held responsible for allowing their children to partake in illegal activities, and this lady should sue for financial duress…..better that tax dollars go towards that than teaching our kids these lessons.

This has nothing to do with her current behavior. It has to do with the classroom environment. This will follow her for the rest of her life in the teaching world, unless she limits her teaching to those under the age of 10. Kids will always TRY to watch porn once past about that age (at least males). This would be very disruptive to any classroom.
A bigger question I have is how she was found out. There are thousands of women who have worked in porn, I think it would be hard to identify most of them on the street (or elsewhere) unless they were very distinctive, especially after a few years time. I wonder if it was somehow "leaked" information.

This breaks my heart. Obviously it was a poor decision, but I bet that she regrets it. People can change. Repentance is real. What is this woman supposed to do now? Who didn't experiment back in their 20's. She wasn't viewing child porn. She wasn't sexually assaulting students. I guess it does rob her of some of her authority if her students view the material though. Maybe she could go teach elementary where the kids would be too young to understand.

If you have seen any of her porn videos she obviously has no sexual hangups, she was a natural, doing anal sex, double penetrations, gangbangs, men, women.. you name it, and always with a huge smile on her face. She was a total porn natural, and in some of her interviews from the time she said the she and her husband are/were swingers and that she was always a very sexual person. If she went back to porn now she could use the noteriety and her now semi celebrity status to demand more money per scene.

Usually, yes. Teachers are held to a very high standard. If you're a high school teacher, it'd even be a bad idea to buy beer at the local market that one of your students was a bagger. Buying the beer wouldn't get you fired but a record will definitely get you suspended while being investigated.
Schools are leery of any type of impropriety.

This is unbelievable. There are teachers who sexually assault their students for years and years and are yet to be punished. This woman who starred in these movies gets fired? It's not like she showed her movies to the class or even influenced any bad behavior on the students. Whoever even discovered her in a porn movie should be expelled. Also the parents of that child should be held accountable for even giving he or she access to such material.

Its to distracting if shes wanting to teach kids old enough to watch porn, theres no way I would ever want to look at my teacher after watching her on a porn. Thats wierd…and gross. So if she wants to teach kids then she needs to be teaching them young enough to where they have no chance of seeing it. Maybe she should have thought about her future before exposing herself that way.

I sy NO she should still have her job if she is .was qualified the the terms and proper measures of obtaining position, and current requirements to maintain employment. EVERYBODY DOES THINGS there not proud of to get by. If it is over & she said it was a mistake aaayyy… .proven ,done done done.. TEACHING maybe is what her biggerst dream is all about.. Sounds like most the parents at the school were not too concerned about her past . Awkward YES !!!! . But not a crime !!!! Let her teach, she would do nothing illegal with the kids. I would say that none of us are sinless. Let those without sin cast the first stone right? I would support her reinstatement as her past should not affect the person she has become. Shame on the school for not supporting her. I think she is a great role model for students as she shows that people can make something of their lives. I will be praying for her to move forward and hope that she holds her head high.

Jim, unfortunately, when you're going to school to become a teacher, no one tells you that your past could cause problems. Only once you've finished your degree and gotten the career you've wanted, then you find out that it can be wiped out in a second. No school district will touch her now. It wouldn't even matter if any of the kids never saw her in her videos. Just that she took part in a porn video, professionally or personally, rumors got her suspended – her fellow coworkers sealed her fate.
