SANTA ANA — A woman, who prosecutors say was so desperate for a baby that she stabbed another woman and tried to steal her week old daughter, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.
28-year-old Gabriela Osorio of Santa Ana, tried to suffocate the 26-year-old female Hispanic victim before stabbing her three times and fleeing with her baby, prosecutors say.
On Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to one felony count each of attempted murder, kidnapping a child under 14 years of age, first-degree residential burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence and three felony counts of aggravated assault with a knife causing great bodily injury, according to a statement from the Orange County district attorney’s office.
The victim, whose identity is being protected, told officers that one week earlier, she had struck a friendship with Osorio and invited her to come visit her newborn baby.
According to police reports, Osorio showed up uninvited at the victim’s home on the day of the attack.
During the struggle, the victim bit the tip of Osorio’s finger off and managed to escape and alert family members, who called police.
The family members talked Osorio into surrendering the baby, who was not hurt.
Prosecutors say it had been Osorio’s intention to murder the mother and kidnap her baby. She was arrested for attempted murder and attempted kidnapping.
Osorio apparently faked a pregnancy for nine months.
She told her family in March that she had given birth to a baby who had to remain hospitalized with a medical problem, Bertagna said.
She then began looking in hospitals and medical clinics for a baby to kidnap.

Instead of taxpayers paying for her imprisonment, she should just have her head cut off and her rotting carcass thrown back over across the border.

Wow she only got 24 yrs for that but I've seen people receive life for lesser crimes…. Thank God the mother and the baby will be fine…

Wow…this dude looks frightening! I bet Obama could probably get some type of knife law enacted to ensure this doesn't happen again.
