MALIBU, Calif. (KTLA) — The son of a co-creator of the popular children’s show ‘Barney and Friends’ has been arrested for allegedly shooting a Malibu neighbor.

27-year-old Patrick Leach is the son of Sheryl Leach, co-creator of the long-running PBS show about a purple dinosaur.

An unidentified witness found the victim, a 49-year-old man, bleeding on a driveway in the 27000 block of Winding Way on Jan. 9.

That witness also got the license plate number of a fleeing vehicle, which led to Leach’s arrest.

The victim was shot in the chest with a .45 handgun, according to sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.

The bullet went through his chest and out his shoulder. He was reportedly in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Leach is facing an attempted murder charge. He was released on Thursday after posting $500,000 bail.

Investigators have not released any information about what might have prompted the shooting.
