SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KTLA) — An 84-year-old woman is hospitalized with injuries she received during a vicious home invasion robbery.
KTLA went to her home on Monday, where neighbors said they’re outraged about the violence — but not surprised by it.
A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said he takes extra safety precautions.
But at the home where an elderly couple was robbed, it appears they did all they could to protect themselves.
There’s a tall chain link fence with locks on the gates, but the safety measures simply weren’t enough.
Crooks invaded the home and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The San Bernardino Sun reports that the couple was also attacked. The woman was struck in her face and upper body.
According to a crime data website, violence is at a high rate in San Bernardino. It also appears that elderly people are being specifically targeted.
Just last November — in the same area — a 76-year-old woman was the victim of another violent and deadly home invasion.
Her son made the gruesome discovery. He entered and found the resident and found his mom dead area was ransacked.
Police said it’s not clear if the two crimes are related.

I bet the neighbors "extra safety precautions" consist of a pistol, rifle, shotgun, or any combination of the three!
