Huntington Beach to Tweak Sex Offender Rules

HUNTINGTON BEACH (KTLA) — The Huntington Beach City Council on Tuesday voted to exempt some sex offenders from an ordinance that bans them from public parks.

Last year, a superior court ruling questioned whether local governments have the right to pass such laws.

Now, some are facing lawsuits from sex offenders who claim that the ordinances take away their constitutional rights.

Huntington Beach Police Chief Kenneth Small will have the final say on which sex offenders are exemptions to the rule.

omg it's now true that criminals have more rights then us.. what about the poor kids I think their constitutional rights have been taken as well as their childhood. Now these people can have free range of any child they like. This world is sick how sad.

Sounds like a dumb idea. Tightening the vice on sex offenders makes more sense IMO..

Both these men were in half-way houses when they should have been locked up for life.

There is only one problem with your comparison Eric Budd. Both of these articles are about men who ESCAPED a controlled facility.

How is that the same as someone who has paid their debt to society and is now trying to live their life like anyone else??

Registries for sex offenders, gun owners, people with mental health issues or child abusers is a bad idea all around. Didn't we learn anything from the Germans, who BTW don't have a sex offender registry.

@Guest, Are you insinuating that sex offenders should not be monitored?

Ms. Schroeder….please note that not all registered sex offenders want access to your children. Not all are predators or pedophiles. Know the facts before you speak foolishly.

Really? The administrator will allow hate-filled comments, but not a logical one? Yep, no bias here.
