PALMDALE, Calif. (KTLA) — A Palmdale woman pleaded not guilty to two counts each of child abuse, torture, assault with a deadly weapon in the alleged torture of her 2 adopted children.
The case came to light when adoptive mother 50-year old Ingrid Brewer reported the 8-year old boy and his 7-year old sister missing.
Deputies eventually located the children lying under a blanket near a parked vehicle on a street near their residence.
Neither child had any type of winter clothing on, despite temperatures in the mid 20s.
The children told deputies that they had run away from home because they were tired of being tied up and beaten by Brewer.
The children disclosed that when she left for work each day, Brewer would lock each of them inside their bedrooms, separate from each other.
The children were forced to use waste baskets in their bedrooms when they needed to go to the bathroom.
Both children disclosed that on numerous occasions, Brewer would zip-tie their hands behind their backs and beat them as punishment.
The children also said they were hit with electrical cords and a hammer. Both children were also deprived of food.
Deputies say the children had injuries on their bodies that were consistent with the alleged abuse, including marks that indicated that their wrists had been restrained with a zip-tie type restraint.
The kids were home schooled, so their were no school officials to report the crimes, police said.
Brewer was arrested and is being held on $2 million bail.
She is due back in court January 31 for a preliminary hearing.
The children are now in protective custody with a foster family.
It is not clear whether the children were adopted through a public or private process.
But the head of the county’s child protective agency said Thursday he would personally investigate the case.
“I am personally looking into this situation to determine what role, if any, our department had in these children’s lives,” Philip Browning, director of the Department of Children and Family Services, said in a statement.

People like this are allowed to adopt children…and then there is people like us that can't have children and try to adopt but cant. I hope this lady rots in prison for the rest of her life and I hope these kids find an amazing forever home with someone who loves them.

Unfortunately, as my mother used to say, Monsters don't ever look like Monsters. She probably painted a really good picture of herself, and she may even have believed that picture for a short time. Sad to say there are no definative tests for ignorance and brutality.
I hope that some day you accomplish your goal and adopt children you can love an charish. Too bad no everyone is that way.

This is a sad, sad story and I am thrilled you want to love children who have no family. But as I read the harm you hope happens to this women I would think twice about letting you parent a child.

What harm? All she said was she hopes she rots in prison. Whats wrong with that? I think given what happened it would be the logical want. Not wanting her to go free….she didnt wish death or injury.

People like this person makes us adoptive parents look like we don't care for our children the way we are suppose to. The sad thing is people like this know how to play the system. Very sad day! I hope and pray that these children can find a family that will love them unconditionally! @Princessbecca, I hope you can find a way to adopt.

@Kate, As long as you are a loving parent to the children you adopted, this evil beast does not make you look like you don't care. This is her problem, not yours. No one is responsible for her evil but her Thank you for providing a safe, loving home for your adopted children.

She fooled the system and got to adopt two kids so she can get a check every month. She used those kids as a pawn ticket so she could live in a big two story home. Hopefully, some inmate in jail goes up side her head.

I hope this woman gets at least 25 years in prison. So sad that these innocent children had to endure such horrific and brutal treatment. I hope the kids get some psychological therapy for their abuse and a new home with loving parents who treat them right. No child should ever have to go through something like this.
