WASHINGTON, DC (KTLA) — Three years after an immigrant from El Salvador was convicted in the 2001 murder of Washington intern Chandra Levy, the case takes a new turn.
The 24-year-old Capitol Hill intern was last seen in May 2001.
Following the disappearance, her family disclosed to police that she had been having an affair with U.S. Representative Gary Condit.
Condit’s unwillingness to cooperate with investigators, fueled speculation that he was behind her disappearance.
He was never charged, but the scandal ended his political career.
Years after her disappearance, Levy’s remains were found in Washington’s Rock Creek Park.
Convicted rapist, Ingmar Guandique, 30, was eventually arrested and convicted of her killing.
But it now appears possible that Guandique may go free.
CBS News is reporting that a judge is holding secret hearings on new information about the credibility of a key prosecution witness at trial.
Guandique was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being convicted in 2010 of killing Levy.
The case relied largely on testimony from an inmate who served time in prison with Guandique.
The identity of the witness in question has not been disclosed. The judge in the case has imposed a strict gag order, preventing any information about the proceedings from coming out.
Guandique has always maintained his innocence.

"Immigrant from El Salvadore" means in this case, "an illegal-alien criminal taking advantage of our sanctuary-city laws and even our media that won't refer to him as an ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINAL."
