Bizarre Arcadia Murder-Suicide Attempt Leads to Police Standoff
ARCADIA (KTLA) – A bizarre attempted murder-suicide in the Chantry Flats area unfolded late Saturday night (Jan. 26).
The attempt resulted in a home invasion, a police stand-off, and ultimately a suspect surrender to LA County Sheriff’s SWAT team members.
Arcadia police first responded to reports of a traffic collision on Chantry Flats Rd.
They discovered that a male driver had hit the guardrail then fled on foot, leaving an uninjured female passenger in the car.
She told investigators that the suspect who fled had tried unsuccessfully to take his own life and hers by driving off the road and over a cliff.
A few hours later, officers received a 9-1-1 call from residents who had fled a home at the Santa Anita Dam, reporting an intruder.
Responding officers determined that the suspect inside was the driver of the car that had hit the guardrail earlier.
The residents of the home also told officers that there was a loaded firearm inside.
The intruder refused officers’ requests to surrender, so L.A. County Sheriff’s SWAT officers entered the home and took the suspect into custody.
He is identified by police as 21-year-old Patrick Anthony Gonzalez of Los Angeles.
The investigation is continuing by Arcadia Police Department detectives.
