SAN DIEGO (KTLA) — At least 3 people were injured when a suspected drug lab exploded at a hotel near SeaWorld San Diego.
The explosion happened just before 11:30 a.m. in a room at the Heritage Inn Sea World.
Authorities believe a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were in the process of extracting hashish oil from marijuana.
They were using butane as a heat source in the process, when the man lighted a cigarette, causing the explosion, officials said.
The blast blew out one interior wall, and black smoke and flames were seen coming from the roof of the three-story structure.
The couple inside the room suffered serious burns.
A man in an adjacent room was also taken to the hospital with head injuries, authorities said.
