LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A key vote has been made to expand and re-model LAX.
The L.A. Board of Airport Commissioners gave the green light to an expansion plan that includes moving a runway closer to the community of Westchester.
Analysts working for the commission say the runway move is necessary to accommodate larger aircraft.
But nearby residents fought the plan, saying it will create more noise and pollution.
“I think it’s a waste of $4.7 billion, and they should not move the runway,” resident Michael Mitchell maintained.
The plan also includes construction of a people mover, a rental car facility and a new terminal.
It must still be signed off on by county, state and federal authorities.
