Cal State Fullerton Game Played in Honor of Slain Coach
FULLERTON, Calif. (KTLA) — The Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team played its first game Saturday afternoon since the murder of assistant coach Monica Quan.
She was shot to death along with her 27-year-old fiance Keith Lawrence, a USC safety officer, on February 3.
The suspect in the shootings is former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, who has declared war on department officers and their families.
Monica Quan’s father is former LAPD Captain Randall Quan.
Saturday’s game against the U.C. Riverside Highlanders was played in memory of Monica Quan.
There was a memorial placed inside the gymnasium and there was a moment of silence before the game.
Players from both teams wore orange bands in memory of 28-year-old Quan, who had gotten engaged days before her murder.
Randall Quan was the department’s first Chinese-American captain and supervised Dorner, who was eventually fired from the LAPD.
Monica Quan’s family did not attend Saturday’s game.
