CHICAGO (CNN) – First lady Michelle Obama attended a funeral Saturday (Feb. 9) in her hometown of Chicago, for a 15-year-old girl gunned last month.
Mrs. Obama was among hundreds of mourners paying their respects to Haydia Pendleton.
White House senior aide Valerie Jarrett and Education Secretary Arne Duncan were also in attendance at a church on Chicago’s South side.
Someone shot and killed the honor student on January 29th, just days after she performed with her high school majorette team at President Obama’s inauguration festivities in Washington.
Officers say Pendleton was not the intended target, but was seeking shelter from the rain when she was hit by gunfire in a park known for gang activity.
Police have made no arrest in the shooting death.
Pendleton’s mother is expected to attend President Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

She didn't attend Chris Kyle's funeral, or the service for the Riverside Sheriff killed. She didn't attend the funeral for the BP agent killed. Enough said!

Chris Kyle was a well known military member. The sheriff services have already been held. As for the Border Patrol agent that was killed as a result of this administration's F*ck up, of course you would claim not to know anything. So did the administration!

This is really sad because no one is thinking about her parents, her family, and friends who she really Hurt by the loss of a good kid. This young girl was a honor roll student was productive in today society and was killed by probably someone her age. This has to end. This selfish gun violence. She attended funeral out of respect because she was a good citizen. Please help one another instead of attacking me because my skin is darker than yours I might has to save your life one day.

As the saying goes, "Let the dead bury their dead." So, though I doubt Michelle was there because the victim was black, but that the victim performed at the inauguration ceremony and wanted to pay her respect. Nothing wrong with that. R.I.P. Haydia.
