Is the so called reign of terror of a former cop who has declared war on his own brothers and sisters in blue finally over?
Police Chief Charlie Beck didn’t speak on camera tonight but he has released some statements.
Beck says while people closest to the scene of a cabin fire in Big Bear are as confident as they can be that fugitive Christopher Dorner was inside and is now dead, nothing is confirmed.
This contradicts reports quoting different law enforcement sources from different agencies that Dorner is, in fact, dead.
A high-ranking LAPD spokesman says people are jumping to conclusions.
“That cabin is still too hot for anybody to make entry. there has been no body located inside of that cabin,” Cmdr. Andy Smith said.
“Any reports of a body being found are not true. Any reports that that body has been identified as Christopher Dorner are not true,” he added.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa spoke earlier and seemed resolved that the case had come to an end.
“I want to thank all of the law enforcement professionals who have day and night tried to bring Christopher Dorner to justice,” Villaraigosa said.
“Until Mr. Dorner has been identified as either deceased or he’s got handcuffs on him and he’s sitting in a jail, we’re going to continue as though he’s still out there,” Smith emphasized.
“We just want to make sure, out of an abundance of precaution, to make sure that all of our officers and the citizens of Los Angeles are safe.”
