IRVINE, Calif. (KTLA) —A high school teacher has been accused of trying to solicit sexually explicit pictures of young boys by using a fake Facebook page.
Irvine police say 30-year-old Zachery Reeder posed as a young woman on Facebook and did not appear to have any physical contact with the alleged victims.
Lt. Julia Engen of the Irvine Police Department said “what Reeder would do is use his knowledge of the kids in that age range and try to convince people he was approaching to “friend” that he was in their circle of friends.”
Engen added that “posing as a young female, he would maybe say a name or talk about a situation or something that would put that person at ease and make them believe that he was as he was portraying himself to be.”
At least 70 teens from Lake Forest, Irvine, Anaheim, Tustin and Orange have come forward in the case.
Reeder worked as a social science teacher at Servite High School, a Catholic, all-boys school in Anaheim.
Reeder has also worked at Beckman High School in Irvine.
Prosecutors have filed 140 felony counts against Reeder, including possession of child pornography, distributing obscene matter involving minors, exhibiting lewd material to a minor and luring a child with intent to commit a specified crime.
