VAN NUYS, Calif. — A high-speed car crash early Saturday morning killed a passenger and badly injured the driver.
The deadly wreck happened around 1:30 a.m. on Van Nuys Boulevard near Friar Street.
Police said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control.
The vehicle hit a curb and flew into a palm tree before slamming into a storefront.
The passenger died on impact. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Investigators say alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.
The 22-year-old driver will be booked for manslaughter once he is released from the hospital.
