SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — It started as a fuzzy feel-good story.
A good Samaritan pleaded for help — and donations — to reunite a man and his dog.
He thanked her, kissing her hands and feet.
But that was then.
This is now.
The good Samaritan, Maria Sanchez, claims the man, Dave Thomas, recently left her this voice message.
“I will be getting in touch with the lawyer and if you do anything with my money that is slander one, embezzlement two, what’s the other one? Oh grand larceny because it’s over one-thousand dollars. ..I am clean that’s why the cops let me go.”
Thomas was jailed briefly, reportedly for problems with traffic tickets.
His pit bull, Buzz Lightyear, was placed in the San Bernardino animal shelter. Thomas was released, but had trouble paying the required fees to spring his best friend. That’s when Sanchez spotted him.
The poignant pet story attracted a lot of attention, and a lot of money.
Sanchez set up a pay pal account to handle buzz’s bills.
There was a heart-warming reunion, a big wet thank you…all in front of TV cameras.
Then the relationship ended up in the doghouse.
