Suspect at Large After Crashing Stolen Cop Car

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KTLA) — Riverside police are searching for a man who stole a police car on Sunday morning and is still on the loose.

Investigators say an officer spotted the suspect driving erratically on Pine Street around 12:30 a.m. and attempted to stop him.

The car crashed into some bushes and the driver fled on foot.

The officer gave chase, but the suspect managed to lose him and came back to the scene, where he jumped in the police cruiser and sped off.

That’s when one witness, who did not want to be identified, told KTLA that he heard gunfire.

“Next thing I know the car’s taking off. I hear a gunshot. The cop gets up and runs down the street,” he recalled.

The suspect apparently lost control and crashed the cruiser just a few miles away, near the intersection of Market Street and Auga Mansa Road.

The suspect jumped out of the patrol car and fled the scene.

Authorities do not believe anyone was injured in the officer-involved shooting.

He is described as a male in his early 20s, 5-foot-8 to 6-feet-tall, with a medium build and short spiky black hair.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to contact Riverside police at 951-353-7103 or 951-353-7136.

Sometimes news articles do not mention the skin color/ race just to be politically correct, compromising the chance of identifying suspects early on.
