Sequester Could Mean Air-Travel Delays, Higher Prices — Liberte Chan Reports

The cuts are getting closer and the warnings are getting more dire.

Here at LAX, travelers could see fewer flights and higher ticket prices.

In less than four days, $85 billion will be stripped from the government budget unless the white house and congress can strike a deal.

The president says the cuts don’t have to happen and warns that if the sequester goes into effect there would be cuts across the board, everything from education to child care and transportation.

47 thousand federal aviation employees would face furloughs.

That means fewer air traffic controllers in the towers and more delays.

The FAA says it could also mean higher ticket prices.

If the budget deal isn’t reached by Friday, all 50 states would see automatic cuts in nearly all government operations.

According to the white house, here in California… 1,210 teacher and aide jobs are at risk and 187,000 students would be affected.

Up to 2,000 disadvantaged kids also could lose access to child care.

And, about $2.6 million would be cut from public health operations.

Another $600 million would be slashed from the FAA.

Louisiana’s Republican Governor Bobby Jindal called the administration’s dire warnings “political theater.”
