Women Fight Back Against Revenge Porn Websites

It only takes one click to take a picture, and one click to send it.

Women who have taken intimate pictures and thought they were sharing them privately were horrified to find out those pictures have ended up on an internet porn website.

Now some of the victims are fighting back against so called revenge porn websites.

With today’s social media, it doesn’t take much for your private information to become public.  But this website whose domain name were are not going to reveal, takes that to a shocking level.

Soliciting nude pictures taken anonymously.

This woman, we’ll call her Sarah suspects an ex-boyfriend sent her private pictures to the website.

“I went right to the website I started crying. I was horrified.”

This woman who we will call Bridget says website owner Craig Britton used craigslist to trick her into sending in pictures posted on the site.

“I was sick to my stomach, I was nauseous.”

Involuntary or revenge websites are not new, but Britton’s website has a particular nasty twist because it includes the women’s facebook page and phone number.

“I started getting text messages, looking to hookup.”

And the contact information causes a link to the pictures to pop up on a Google search.

“It was one of the top sites that came up.”

The site says women can pay 250 dollars to what it calls a takedown hammer to have the pictures removed, but Bridget is spending her money on a lawyer.

“We’re going to file a lawsuit and try to have the content taken down.”

Bridget’s lawyer thinks she has a good case based on copyright and privacy violations.

Other experts say this is uncharted legal territory.

“Can you sue the website, that is the new frontier of the law and it’s not clear at all,”says legal expert Dan Recht.

And in the meantime.

“If you don’t want your mother or father seeing something, don’t put it out there.”

Craig Britain the owner of the website has stopped talking, but in an earlier interview  posted on the “Ars Technica” website,  Britain said his revenge porn website was just entertainment.

Meantime,  lawyers say there is a growing movement across the country to change the law, so this kind of things doesn’t happen.
