JURUPA VALLEY — Voluntary evacuations are in effect for some residents Thursday as firefighters battle an out-of-control brush fire in the Santa Ana River bed.

The fire was reported about 4:30 near Rio Road and Calle Hermosa at the south end of Rancho Jurupa Park, fire officials said.

At least 2 structures were damaged by flying embers.
