HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — Two wayward dolphins have returned to the Ocean after being stuck in the Bolsa Chica wetlands Friday.

Marine workers found the pair stranded near PCH and Warner Avenue.

The two dolphins stuck close together as rescuers tried to coax them toward the Ocean.

“The goal was to keep the animals away from the shallow water if possible,” Melissa Sciacca from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center told KTLA.

Sciacca said the animals appeared to be healthy so rescuers did not want to intervene any more than necessary.

After several hours rescuers finally got the dolphins to go the direction they wanted.

She said they directed the dolphins out of the area by making splashing sounds which the animals don’t care for.

A similar incident happened in the same area last year.
