Man Arrested in Attempted Sex Assault Near UCLA
WESTWOOD, Calif. (KTLA) — A man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a UCLA student in her apartment in Westwood.
Evan Ryan Baldwin, 22, was arrested last Thursday and charged for assault with intent to commit rape.
The alleged attack happened around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday at the student’s apartment in the 400 block of Landfair Avenue, according to UC police.
The student screamed and the suspect ran out. No one was hurt.
The victim’s roommate called police right away, and Baldwin was arrested minutes later near the intersection of Veteran and Weyburn avenues.
It wasn’t immediately known how the suspect got into the secure-entry apartment building.
Police said it appeared he entered the victim’s apartment through the front door. There was no sign of forced entry.
It remains unclear whether the incident is related to some other recent robberies and attempted sexual assaults in Westwood.
In one case, a female student was attacked around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 while walking between parking structure No. 9 and the engineer No. 4 building.
The attacker tried to knock the woman to the ground, but she was able to break free and was not injured.
Campus police warn that students should keep their doors locked and should report any suspicious persons or activity.
