Window Smash Burglar Hits Sherman Oaks Stores – Jennifer Gould Reports
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. (KTLA) — Several businesses in the Sherman Oaks area have been targeted in a rash of smash-and-grab burglaries.
Police say there have been more than a half-dozen incidents since February 19 on Ventura Blvd. between Van Nuys and Sepulveda.
They crimes usually happen in the early morning hours.
Investigators believe that only one suspect is involved. He wears a dark-colored hoodie, so no description was available.
“I’m probably the fifth victim here on Ventura Boulevard,” said Maggie Cisneros, of Rock Couture Vintage.
The thieves threw a rock through the window of Cisneros’ storefront early Sunday morning, Feb. 24.
“They took Chanel handbags and Prada handbags and anything that is of value, and a fur,” she said.
Cafe 50′s, located just down Ventura Boulevard, was also targeted. Manager Damien King says that he was a victim last Friday.
“Someone reported it right away, but by the time the cops got here, he was already up and gone,” King said.
There is surveillance video from burglaries at a Sherman Oaks TJ Maxx and an AT&T store.
At TJ Maxx, you can see a suspect throw a rock or brick through the front window. He grabs some items and then takes off.
And at the AT&T store, it was more of the same, with the suspect getting in and out in less than a minute.
LAPD detectives say there were also some cases of vandalism near the places where the burglaries occurred.
It wasn’t immediately clear if they were related. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD’s Van Nuys Division.
