Watts Shooting: Gunman, 2 Others Dead
WATTS, Calif. (KTLA) — A gunman killed a man and fired at officers before barricading himself inside a home in Watts, where he shot a woman before turning the gun on himself.
It all started around 3 a.m. Friday with a call about shots fired near the intersection of 115th and Grape streets.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a Hispanic male shot to death inside a red pickup truck that was still running.
Officers were confronted by the suspect in front of a nearby home. He shot at the officers, who returned fire, LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith said.
The suspect then retreated into the house, and continued to fire at officers from inside for about 45 minutes, according to Smith.
At one point, an 8-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl ran out of the house and told police that their mother and father were both shot.
A SWAT team made entry into the home and found a 1-year-old child who was unharmed. They also found a man and a woman down.
Police said the suspect was dead at the scene, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers recovered a weapon.
The woman was rushed to the hospital in grave condition.
She later died at the hospital.
