NORWALK, Calif. (KTLA) — Family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil Saturday evening at the spot where a man was fatally hit by a driver who fled the scene.
20-year-old Daniel Ortiz, a former quarterback at Norwalk High School, died February 11 after being struck by the hit-and-run driver while riding his skateboard.
The collision was first reported about 4:20 a.m. February 9 at Studebaker and Foster roads.
It appeared the vehicle was heading northbound on Studebaker when it struck the Ortiz, who was crossing the road within a marked cross walk.
Investigators say based on the debris found at the scene, it appears the vehicle was a metallic blue Nissan Titan and would likely have front end damage.
Family members are hoping a $5,000 reward will help urge someone to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s Norwalk Station at 562-863-8711.
