Armed Man Shot by Police in Echo Park

ECHO PARK, Calif. (KTLA) — An investigation is underway after police shot and wounded an armed man in Echo Park early Tuesday morning.

echo-park-picIt happened around 12:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard, near Echo Park Avenue.

LAPD officers were responding to several calls about shots fired in the area.

When they arrived at the scene, the suspect opened fire on the officers, police said, and that’s when the officers returned fire.

KTLA has obtained exclusive surveillance video of the incident, captured by two young men who were sitting in their car nearby.

You can see the suspect running away from police and firing as the officers fire back.

“We saw the guy that got shot. He was just like on the wall, he had something in his hand,” said “Carlos,” who shot the cell phone video.

“The cops had their guns drawn, telling him to get down on the floor and put what he had down. He ran and we saw him open fire to the cops and they shot back,” he recalled.

The suspect was hit multiple times. It wasn’t immediately known how many times he was shot or where he was hit.

He was transported to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in serious but stable condition.

The suspect was described only as a male adult. His name and age were not immediately available.

No officers were injured in the incident. Sunset Boulevard was blocked off in both directions to accommodate the investigation.

Wendy mentioned this early am that the VICTIM was taken to the hospital. She later clarified the SUSPECT was taken to the hospital after shot by PD. I'm glad she clarified that issue.

even though he shot first, I am surprised no one has said the cops planted the gun, just wish the cops would have planted the guy
