MENIFEE, Calif. (KTLA) — An elderly widow in Riverside County got the shock of her life when she received a hefty water bill.
78-year-old Evelyn Haynes, of Menifee, couldn’t believe it when she got her monthly water bill for $2,659.71.
She says it’s a far cry from her normal $40 per month bill.
But according to Eastern Municipal Water District, Haynes used 213,928 gallons, or more than 45 times her typical 4,500 gallons a month.
And they say they tested her meter and found it was working just fine.
A spokesman says they will work with Evelyn to reduce the bill and will investigate the cause of the matter.
