She looks like Janis Joplin, and for sure sounds like her.
Now Mary Bridget Davies is the queen of rock and roll on stage.
“If you could see her soul it would blind you, that’s what I feel about her and that’s what we try to bring to light every night,” Mary Bridget Davies, plays Janis Joplin.
“One Night with Janis Joplin” at the Pasadena Playhouse combines storytelling from Joplin’s point of view, but ultimately it’s a celebration, a musical journey including acts by those who influenced Joplin the most.
Joplin who was born in Texas…found her way to San Francisco where she shot to stardom in the late 60’s with songs like Me and Bobby McGee, Mercedes Benz and Piece of my Heart.
“She was so honest it resonates with people. She says everything you are thinking but won’t say in polite company,” Davies says.
It’s hard not to sing along, the intimate setting, the costumes and the set a flashback to the 60’s.
