BlackBerry threw a party in Hollywood to celebrate the launch of its brand new Z10 flagship phone. The phone ditches the physical keyboard that made BlackBerry the must-have device several years ago. The Z10 is all touch-screen and has a brand new operating system called BlackBerry 10.
The party featured several celebs including self-described BlackBerry holdouts Rachel Bilson and the pop group Tegan and Sara, who also performed at the event. I also spotted reality star Stephanie Pratt, “Transformers” actors Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Josh Duhamel and American Idol contestant Pia Toscano.
I haven’t spent a ton of time on the phone but from what I can tell I do like the form factor a lot. The camera takes better pictures than I though it would based on all of the early blog posts I read. The redesigned software will take some getting used to but the phone is very snappy and moves easily between apps with little hesitation.
The biggest challenge for BlackBerry is getting people to re-adopt their platform. So many have switched loyalty to Android or iPhone it is going to be an uphill battle to convince them a phone with a smaller eco-system and app selection is better.
