Beverly Center Evacuated Over Suspicious Package

BEVERLY GLEN, Calif. (KTLA) — The Beverly Center was evacuated for several hours on Sunday afternoon after a report of a suspicious package.

bev-center-evacThousands of shoppers were hurried out of the busy mall, and the LAPD bomb squad was called out.

Police say a driver told them someone had put a briefcase in the back seat of his vehicle in the Beverly Center parking structure.

The man alerted police about the package around noon. Shoppers said they heard an announcement telling them to leave the mall shortly before 1 p.m.

The bomb squad sent a robot into the parking structure to probe the package, which was ultimately detonated.

Police re-opened the roads and allowed employees and shoppers back into the mall a few hours later.
