Man Who Lost Legs in Strip Club Attack Faces Suspect

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A Paramount man appeared in court Monday to be arraigned on drunk driving charges, just weeks after he allegedly crashed his car into two men, leading to amputated legs for both of them.

Terrence Conrad Meeks, 40, faces one count of DUI causing injury and one count of driving with a .08 blood alcohol level, causing injury. The charges stem from an incident on March 10 at a Los Angeles strip club.

Meeks pleaded not guilty to both charges in court.

If convicted of the charges against him, Meeks faces up to five years in state prison.

The original incident happened about 3:30 a.m. at Sam’s Hofbrau in the 900 block of Olympic Boulevard, near Alameda Street.

Investigators say a fight broke out inside the club between 40-year-old Terrence Conrad Meeks, of Paramount, and two Hispanic men, who have not been identified.

The altercation — which reportedly included racial slurs — escalated and spilled outside.

Police say Meeks then got behind the wheel of his white BMW and slammed into the two other men as they stood in front of their Mini Cooper.

Both victims were pinned between the two cars, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that Meeks appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

Paramedics rushed the victims — ages 24 and 57 — to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for critical injuries.

One victim had both legs amputated above the knee, according to prosecutors. The other had his right leg amputated above the knee.

Both men remain hospitalized.

Prosecutors say there was no evidence that the incident was a result of a hate crime.
